Polyurethane (PU) waterproofing for roofs, balconies and bathrooms

Liquid polyurethane cures into a seamless, highly elastic membrane that follows any surface shape — the familiar solution for roof slabs, balconies and bathrooms.

Polyurethane (PU) waterproofing is a liquid material that cures into a seamless elastic membrane with no joints. Single-component grades are moisture-curing and ready to use out of the pail, applied by notched trowel, squeegee or roller.

A complete PU system typically comprises an epoxy primer for adhesion, two PU coats applied at right angles to each other, and a UV-resistant top coat where the membrane stays exposed. VNA supplies all these layers from Keshun, with Buildmix alternatives.

Frequently asked questions

What is the consumption of PU waterproofing in kg/m²?

It depends on the product and the required film thickness. For Keshun Aquacoat KS-929C the technical data sheet states 1.6–1.8 kg/m² per 1 mm film; actual consumption depends on the substrate.

Can a PU membrane be left exposed?

Standard PU membranes need a UV-resistant top coat or a protection layer when exposed. Keshun Aquacoat 680 is a weathering-grade PU used directly on exposed surfaces such as concrete roofs, metal roofs and terraces.
