Pre-applied self-adhesive HDPE membrane for basement waterproofing
The pre-applied HDPE membrane is laid over the blinding concrete before rebar and concrete; its pressure-sensitive adhesive layer bonds fully to the structural concrete.
A pre-applied self-adhesive HDPE membrane consists of a high-density polyethylene sheet, a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer and a protective granular coating. When fresh concrete is poured onto it, the adhesive bonds fully and permanently to the concrete, so water cannot migrate laterally between membrane and structure even if the membrane is locally punctured.
The membrane installs quickly, needs no primer, can be trafficked immediately after laying and requires no protection layer before rebar installation. It is a common choice for basement base slabs, blind-side walls, pile caps and underground tanks.
Frequently asked questions
How does a pre-applied HDPE membrane differ from a torch-applied membrane?
A pre-applied HDPE membrane bonds directly to the structural concrete cast against it, preventing lateral water migration; it uses no open flame, no primer and no protective screed. A torch-applied membrane adheres to the substrate, needs protection and does not bond to the concrete poured later.
Can the HDPE membrane be installed on a damp substrate?
Yes. The blinding concrete does not need to be fully dry — only free of standing water.
